So here are a few little exercises that you can do to help you work out what you wanna do and where you wanna go when developing your plan, your strategy and your vision board for your Virtual Assistant business.
Describe your business and provide an overview. The industry you are in, the current size, location, and your details. For a long time, I had JMJ – EA for a Day, like a giant business card and a photo frame on my desk. It’s a reminder of why I was there. Little things like that help, because sometimes you forget. You can become so caught up in the moment of doing stuff for clients that you forget that you are a business owner and that you have a reason for doing what you’re doing. So that little photo frame just sat there on the desk for me, and that was enough to keep me going.
Then describe business challenges. What makes those things difficult for you? What alternatives do you have? What opportunities are available to you?
Then put down your goals for yourself and for your business. Make sure that you are realistic about times and frames and what’s gonna bind you, what’s going to stop you from doing what you wanna do. So how will you achieve those goals?
List your actions and put down when you’re going to complete the goal because a goal is definite. But you need to have little tiny milestones to get you to where you need to be. So doing this will help you because you need to check off what milestones have been achieved. And then if something isn’t achieved, what impact does that have on you achieving that goal?
What do you need to work around in order to change that to help you get to where you need to be and what’s gonna make it a success? So it’s not just about focusing on the “what if this doesn’t happen” and the “what if that doesn’t happen?”
You need to focus on what if this happens. We move on to the next thing.
So planning is all this sort of thinking too, like knowing who your competition is, what personal development you need to take, what products and services you wanna offer.
It’s no good saying I’m gonna be a graphic designer if you have no skills in that and if you have no software, no apps, no knowledge of how to even do that. But there’s nothing to stop you from having that as a goal in 12 months’ time. Then you put in little goals on what you need to achieve so you can be that graphic designer. Now, I’m not saying you can’t be what you wanna be, you gonna be anything you wanna be. I’m a case in point for that.
You can be anything you wanna be but build in the steps to help you get there. They’ll keep you focused, they’ll keep you on track. You won’t lose focus as easily. And it’s easy to lose focus. It’s easy for other things to get in the way and derail you.
